Kent County Middle School teacher Kaitlyn Wright is among seven finalists announced for the Maryland Teacher of the Year. Wright, who teaches English and leads the drama program at the middle school, was named Kent County Public Schools Teacher of the Year last spring.

Stroke Smart Proclamations Issued in Five-County Region Thanks to Work of UM SRH Stroke Committee
County councils in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent and Queen Anne’s recently presented proclamations to University of Maryland Shore Regional Health’s (UM SRH) Stroke Committee. These proclamations designated these counties as “Stroke Smart” counties. Talbot County issued a proclamation in May 2024. UM SRH is a member organization of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS).
YMCA OF THE CHESAPEAKE TEAM CERTIFIED IN CHRONIC DISEASE & PREVENTION PROGRAMS
On August 18th, ten YMCA team members from across the Eastern Shore were certified by YUSA to coach two of the YMCA of the Chesapeake’s signature Chronic Disease & Prevention Programs – EnhanceFitness® and LiveSTRONG at their respective branches. These new coaches will facilitate the expansion of these critical programs to more Y branches across the Delmarva Peninsula.

Returning to school after a long summer break can be a stressful time for students, whether it's a child’s first day of kindergarten, a transition to middle or high school, or just the end of the freedoms of summer. It's normal for children to feel anxious about these changes. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) recommends the following to help ease children’s worries as they transition back to school.
