The Kent County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors issued an advocacy statement to Chestertown’s Mayor and Council recommending funds received from the American Rescue Plan Act be allocated to expand fiber-to-the-premise broadband access throughout Chestertown’s historic downtown district. The chamber’s advocacy statement was followed by an in-person presentation to the Chestertown Mayor and Council by Bryan Matthews, Kent Chamber president, and John Carroll, board member, where they laid out the unique benefits the town could realize by expanding fiber broadband access.
The Kent Chamber’s believes firmly that if the Town of Chestertown prioritizes the expansion of critical technology infrastructure—fiber-to-the-premise, mobile cell towers, publicly accessible Wi-Fi Hotspots—Chestertown’s downtown business district will have a stronger economic recovery and future business resiliency.
“The Kent County Chamber of Commerce is convinced that we will achieve economic growth if local government continues to invest in the installation of fiber optic lines, the achievement of last-mile connections, and the development of digital literacy programs,” reads the letter.
To better advocate for our members and the types of investments our community needs to grow, the Kent Chamber has established the Voice of the Business Committee to serve as the primary means to identify, advocate, and champion the innovative solutions Kent County needs to facilitate and expand growth. Our members can turn to and rely on the Kent Chamber to advocate for the accessible and reliable technology infrastructure Kent County needs for the future. The Voice of Business Committee meets monthly to discuss these kinds of matters affecting business and the community. If you are member of the Kent County Chamber of Commerce and would like to participate in these discussions, please contact the Kent Chamber at director@kentchamber.org or 410-810-2968.
